Abstract

The paper presents data on the distribution of deep-sea shrimps of the ‘Acanthephyra purpurea’ species group in the Atlantic Ocean based on expeditions of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology RAS in the period from 2012 to 2022. Six species from this group were recorded in the Atlantic Ocean: A. acanthitelsonis, A. kingsleyi, A. pelagica, A. purpurea, A. quadrispinosa and A. sica. Geographically, the six species can be divided into three pairs that occur in the North, Equatorial, or South Atlantic, respectively. The ranges of geographic distribution of species are compared with the contemporary biogeographic classification of the mesopelagic zone. A mutual correspondence between this classification and the geographic ranges of shrimps, except in the equatorial region, is shown. It is suggested that biogeographic boundaries in the equatorial Atlantic need to be revised..
