Abstract
Monitoring the quality of our surface waters is important to raise awareness and invoke action where needed. As in situ measurement campaigns are time and resource intensive, this study aims to investigate the potential of remote sensing, and in particular Sentinel-2, data to assist in this monitoring. The capability of several established algorithms to retrieve chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentrations from multispectral imagery is assessed by means of set of in situ measurements acquired in Belgium between 2015 and 2023. Based on this assessment, the MDN algorithm is proposed.
