Abstract
The study of plankton populations in Marseilles' harbour areas for a 5 days period shows daily variations of different biological and hydrological factors. High variations may appear day after day, specially as far as biological parameters (zooplankton and phytoplankton) are concerned; variation coefficient (cv){approx} 2100 is not rare. Among hydrological parameters, the seston weight shows the highest relative variations (Cv=87). To some extent, the variation coefficient suggests a differentiation between the harbour environment and the reference area. In this way, the harbour area looks more stable than the Grulf of Marseilles waters, as far as temp and extinction coefficient are concerned. On the other hand, the variations of salinity and seston weight are higher in the harbour area.
