Abstract
The Synisoma, Isopoda Valvifera present a very rich polychromatism. The genetic analysis of this polymorphism allowed us to deal with the study of the sex determination in this type of animals. Six species of Synisoma have been so far discovered on the Tunisian coastal line. S. mediterranea n.sp. has been particularly studied. Three major phenotypes of colouring: albafusca, bilineata and nigrocephala have been described and studied in comparison with a fundamental phenotype uniformis. The female sex in S. m . is heterogametic (WZ) while the male sex is homogametic (ZZ).
