Antwerp Maritime Academy (AMA) is the only academy in Belgium which provides education in Nautical Sciences and Marine Engineering at bachelor and master level. The courses are taught in Dutch and French. They meet stringent international quality-standard requirements set by the International Maritime Organisation, which allows AMA to offer certificates that are fully compliant with IMO STCW-standards (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping). The STCW Operational Level is obtained at the completion of the bachelor cycle, while the STCW Management Level is a modular part of the master cycle. The certificates grant access to the onboard functions mentioned below, as well as to onshore careers in a nautical-economic or nautical-technical function:

• Bachelor Nautical Sciences: Graduates start as Junior Officer of the watch;
• Master Nautical Sciences: Graduates have access to management jobs onboard a vessel (e.g. chief officer, captain, etc.);
• Bachelor Marine Engineering: Graduates start as Junior Engineering Officer;
• Master Marine Engineering (from 2024 onwards): Graduates have access to management jobs onboard a vessel (e.g. chief engineer).

AMA also offers a Postgraduate in Hydrography. AMA focuses on applied and practice-based research. The multi-disciplinary team of lecturers are involved in a large variety of research domains such as language and communication, corrosion and biofouling, sustainable transport and hydrography. From 2024 onwards, the campus will host a full mission simulator adapted for research needs. Students are actively involved in ongoing research projects by bachelor and master projects.

De Antwerp Maritime Academy (AMA, Hogere Zeevaartschool) is de enige academie in België die het onderwijs Nautische Wetenschappen en Scheepswerktuigkunde op bachelor- en masterniveau verzorgt. De cursussen worden gegeven in het Nederlands en Frans. Zij voldoen aan strenge internationale kwaliteitsnormen van de Internationale Maritieme Organisatie (IMO). Zo kan AMA certificaten aanbieden die volledig beantwoorden aan de IMO STCW-normen (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping). In de Nautische Wetenschappen bijvoorbeeld wordt het operationele niveau van het STCW verkregen aan het einde van de bachelorcyclus, terwijl het beheerniveau van het STCW een modulair onderdeel is van de mastercyclus. In de Scheepswerktuigkunde wordt het STCW-managementniveau al bereikt binnen de bachelorcyclus. De certificaten geven toegang tot de onderstaande functies aan boord, en geven daarnaast ook toegang tot carrières aan land in een nautisch-economische of nautisch-technische functie:

• Bachelor Nautische Wetenschappen: afgestudeerden beginnen als junior officier van de wacht;
• Master Nautische Wetenschappen: afgestudeerden hebben toegang tot managementfuncties aan boord van een schip (bv. hoofdofficier, kapitein, etc.);
• Bachelor Scheepswerktuigkunde: afgestudeerden kunnen starten als Junior Engineering Office;
• Master Marine Engineering (vanaf 2024): Afgestudeerden hebben toegang tot managementfuncties aan boord van een schip (bv. hoofdwerktuigkundige).

AMA biedt ook een Postgraduaat in Hydrografie aan. AMA richt zich op toegepast en praktijkgericht onderzoek. Het multidisciplinaire team van docenten is betrokken bij een grote verscheidenheid aan onderzoeksdomeinen, zoals taal en communicatie, corrosie en biofouling, duurzaam transport en hydrografie. Vanaf 2024 zal de campus een volledige missiesimulator herbergen die is aangepast aan de onderzoeksbehoeften. Studenten worden actief betrokken bij lopende onderzoeksprojecten via bachelor- en masterprojecten.
