Abstract | The French National Geographic Institute (Institut Géographique National: IGN) and the French Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Office (Service Hydrographique et Océanographique de la Marine: SHOM) were tasked by the Prime Minister to join efforts to produce a seamless, precise topographic and bathymetric model, of the entire French coast. The Litto3D ® project was then created to meet more than hundred requirements expressed by coastal managers concerned with the protection and exploitation of the littoral, and by users of geo-referenced data. An initial laser survey was conducted last summer in the Golfe du Morbihan, and was used to generate a precise Digital Terrain Model. This experiment enabled SHOM and IGN to develop a methodology applicable everywhere and by everyone. |
