Abstract | Dissolved aluminium was determined in the Gulf of Guinea and in the Zaire and Niger rivers with the method based on the specific fluorescence of Al with lumogallion. The concentrations were 0.8 µg .l-1 for surface ocean water, 20 to 45 ug.l-1 for the Zaïre and 3 to 6 ug.l-1 for the Niger river . Some evidence is given that part of the dissolved Al in Zaire river water is bound in organic complexes. Atomic absorption spectrometry gave concentrations comparable to the lumogallion method, only when the samples were filtered through 0.05 µm pores. In contrast to observations in other estuaries, estuarine mixing produced a maximum of dissolved Al at about 5‰ S in the Zaire river plume. |
