Abstract | Optimizalion of feeding rainbow trout in varying environmental conditions is discussed as a computer-simulation problem. The target for optimization includes desired final weight, feed consumption, and nutrient loading. It also includes maximum conversion efficiency and maximum growth rate. One way to model the effects of environmental factors on fish growth and its example model are proposed. The model can be added to existing growth models that do not account for environmental factors other than temperature. Feeding optimization with the help of growth simulations is an effective managing tool; total feed consumption, and thus feed costs, can be reduced remarkably due to optimized feeding regimes. Furthermore, optimization of feeding regimes is an important way to diminish nutrient loading and environmental impact of fish farming. |
