Abstract
This present day study has analysed HL2, observed in cores West of Ireland, with a multitude tools allowing deciphering its physical, compositional and palaeoenvironmental properties. The computed tomography (CT) was a usefull technique as a high advanced imagery of sediments based on their varying density. it permitted to visualize the Heinirch layer. Initially, the HL was thought as consisted of coarse material made of mainly Ice Rafted Debris (>150µm). But CT scan images show clearly other fine grained particle filled this dense layer. The study of physical characteristics of Heinrich Layer 2 allows distinguishing a multi-sourced ice rafted debris into Porcupine Sea bight. The interpretation of the magnetic susceptibility signal allows dividing Heinrich Layer 2 into three distinct units showing three different possible sources of ice rafted debris. The high magnetic signature of the Heinrich Layers was accorded to a high content of iron. Although in the present day study, the profile of iron shows an important decrease within the Heinrich Layer, while the Fe/Ti ratio shows an increase. This leads to distinguish the real source of minerals recording the magnetic signature. Mineralogy was the decisive means to distinguish about the different possible sources overlays within the "Heinrich Layer 2".
