Abstract
The European Union has resolutely taken the lead in international efforts to curtail emissions of co2 and other greenhouse gases. Belgium must generate 13% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2020. To achieve this target, it will increasingly embrace offshore wind energy.
Belgium’s first fully completed wind farm in the North Sea, commissioned by C-Power, has meanwhile been installed on the Thornton Bank. With a crisp, captivating style, the author tells the fascinating story of how this complex project came about, from the inception of the first idea in 1998 through to its completion in 2013.
The book also provides a keen insight into the future of wind energy. It demonstrates how governments and businesses are working towards a more energy-efficient and competitive European economy that is less dependent on fossil fuels.
