Abstract
This report presents the new results and measured data in the physical model of Oostende harbour. This physical model was built at Flanders Hydraulics Research to study extreme storm wave characteristics inside the harbor after the construction of the new breakwaters at the harbour entrance. This new set of experiments focused mainly on studying wave penetration inside Montgomerydock (MD) and at the outer part of the harbour with one storm direction (NW). Besides, wave transmission over the new breakwaters was investigated.
Wave heights at different locations inside the harbour and inside Montgomerydock were measured and used to compute wave penetration coefficients Kd to investigate the efficiency of different scenarios, at the entrance of MD, for reducing wave heights inside it. The wave penetration coefficients presented in this report include four different layouts/designs at the entrance of MD and also three different designs of return wall heights around MD.
