Abstract | In earlier studies the flooding of the Belgian coastal plain was modelled by means of a number of partially overlapping subdomains, each representing a specific sector of the coastal plain. For future studies, it would be preferable to use a single-domain model, covering the entire coastal plain. The aim of this project was to identify the feasibility of building such a single-domain model. Two different approaches were evaluated in parallel. The first was based on the commercial software package "MikeFlood" and the second on the open source software package "Telemac". This subreport covers the evaluation of the software package MikeFlood. The tests described in this report demonstrate that it is feasible to build a single-domain flood model for the entire Belgian coastal plain by means of the software package MikeFlood. Initially, some localized numerical problems were observed, but these could be solved by changing some of the numerical parameters in the 2D model setup. The computational requirements are acceptable and the model output can be processed into flood hazard, flood damage and flood victim maps. |
