Abstract
In this paper the Search Group Algorithm (SGA) is presented to solve offshore Wind Farm Layout Optimization (WFLO) problems. In order to evaluate its performance its designs are compared with a selection of benchmark problems taken from literature, more specifically, the Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) and the Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA). The same WFLO problem is solved three times however with different parameters sets of the SGA to analyze the influence of the parameter tuning on its results. The numerical analysis reveals that the SGA algorithm generally outperforms the EA and ICA in solving WFLO problems. Comparing the parameter sets it shows that a higher number of iterations might he preferable over a high population size. The results of a 100 runs of the SGA are presented to provide a statistical! basis for further comparison. These statistical confirm that the SGA is a very robust method as there is very little dispersion between the obtained designs hence that it is a viable option for optimizing WFLO problems.
