Abstract | Seasonal variations in numbers of young demersal fish were observed in the Wadden Sea. These variations are mainly related to food and water temp. Large numbers of young fish enter the area in summer, growing very well in this rich feeding area. They leave the Wadden Sea to avoid low water temps below 1 to 3 degrees C. Differences in distributional patterns between year classes 0 and 1 of Pleuronectes platessa, Limanda limanda, Solea solea are shown. An increase in the population of Gobius minutus following the severe winter of 1962/63 is discussed. |
