Abstract
    Umbilia is a genus of direct-developing cowries endemic to Australia. The group exhibited its peak diversity during the Middle Miocene, where highly specialised morphological characters developed inseveral taxa This study provides a taxonomic descnption of two new Middle to Late Miocene Umbilia species from two localities within the Otway Basin of Victoria, Australia The first species, formally descnbed as U. hallani n. sp., is known from Lake Bullen Merri,which is of presumed Bairnsdalian age. The second species, U. darryli n. sp., is known from Late Miocene deposits in Lake Keilambete, Victoria. The two new species are compared to species to which they have been previously attributed and to other congeners. Theevolution of Umbilia is also discussed and reinterpreted according to the results presented within
