Abstract | The rope grass hydroid Calyptospadix cerulea is quite a mysterious species. It is uncertain where the species originates from or how it arrived in our regions. Maybe this species has always been present here but was never observed before. Consequently, this hydroid is a cryptogenic species, which means that it is uncertain if the species is native or not. The rope grass hydroid occurs mainly in brackish water and is not present in the North Sea. In 1962, this cnidarian was first observed in Belgium in the Western Scheldt. |
