Abstract
Ascidians are sessile as adults and usually found on the sides and undersurfaces of rocks low in the intertidal zone, where they occur with hydroids, sponges, and bryozoans. In addition, they often dominate artificial surfaces such as floating docks and boat hulls in harbors and bays.
