Abstract
    The impact of man-induced disturbance on spring-staging brent geese was investigated on a salt marsh in the national park 'Schleswig-Holsteinisches Wattenmeer'. 36% of all disturbances were caused by humans, 26% by aircraft. On the whole, reactions to 86% of all potential disturbing factors were observed. On average, 50 to 88% of the birds in a flock take flight after a disturbance. The highest percentage is caused by helicopters and small airplanes. Reactions last between one and two minutes. Brent geese show a clear reaction in their spatial and temporal distribution in response to the number of tourists present and partly leave the area in the course of the season.
