Abstract | An ecological, faunistic and biogeographic study has been made on Pycnogonida of the Canary coasts. Various algal substrates from mediolittoral and infralittoral levels have been studied; moreover, some data on circalittoral taxa (Dendrophyllia ramea community) are included, down to 300 metres. Among the seaweeds sampled, Corallina mediterranea and Halopteris are the most rich in pycnogonids. This collection contains 366 specimens obtained in 19 stations. Twelve taxa have been identified. Achelia echinata is the more abundant species on the circalittoral level, Callipallene emaciata in the infralittoral, and Anoplodactylus angulatus in the mediolittoral one. Ascorhynchus sp. is a macaronesian endemic species: Endeis spinosa Callipallene emaciata and Tanystylum conirostre are amphiatlantic taxa; Achelia echinata has a large mondial distribution and the others are typical of the Atlantic-Mediterranean region. |
