Abstract
This contribution reports on training courses organised by the authors in the University Library of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on information retrieval and information management in science and technology. The courses are mainly aimed at participants from developing countries, but are also open to other interested persons. The subject area of water and the environment is emphasised, as well as the application of computers and networks. Topics discussed in this contribution are the aims of the training courses, the subjects treated, the teachers and contributors, the participants, costs and financial aspects, the sponsors and travel grants, methods used to announce the courses, problems and lessons learned, and possible future programmes.
