Krill abundance, vertical and horizontal distribution (MOCNESS system), April-June 2001-02, continental margin west of Antarctic Peninsula, GLOBEC Contact: Van de Putte, Anton Availability: This dataset is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. Description Dataset on zooplankton (krill) samples collected in April - June 2001 and 2002 on the continental shelf to the west of the Antarctic Peninsula. more Using a Multiple Opening and Closing Nets and Environmental Sensing System (MOCNESS), zooplankton samples were collected at selected depth intervals in the water column. Samples from each net were screened for euphausiids. All euphausiids in the subset were identified to species, life history stage, and measured for length to the nearest 0.5 mm for larvae and to the nearest 1.0 mm for juvenile and adults. Thus krill abundance, distribution, and population structures can be mapped in both the vertical and horizontal planes. Sampling was conducted in April-June 2001 and 2002. The general sampling area includes: the continental shelf to the west of the Antarctic Peninsula extending from the northern tip of Adelaide Island to the southern portion of Alexander Island, and Marguerite Bay.
