The bird directive or the European directive 79/409/EEG has as a purpose to preserve the birds living in the wild on the territory of the European member states. The main measure is the delineation of special protected areas. In these areas measures should be taken for the protection of the bird species and their habitats. The delineation of the areas is done in the field on analogue maps. The digitisation was done on the screen using mid-scale cartographic material on scale of 1/25.000 or on 1/50.000. In the course of 2001 a revision of the delineation is planned.
