Description The 2001 Oregon, California and Washington Line-Transect Experiment (ORCAWALE) was designed to estimate the abundance of and to describe the distribution of dolphins, whales, and porpoises off the west coast of the United States out to 300 nautical miles. This survey was conducted by the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center aboard NOAA Ships David Starr Jordan and McArthur for a combined total of approximately 10,000 kilometers surveyed from late July to early December 2001. This dataset provides the time-date and geographical coordinates, by species/stock, of all cetaceans detected during the survey, as well as the daily and intra-daily start and end points of the line-transect survey by the NOAA Ship McArthur. more The primary purpose of this survey was to estimate the abundance of and to describe the distribution of dolphins, whales, and porpoises off the west coast of the United States out to 300 nautical miles. This dataset is supplemental to the following datasets: SWFSC Marine Mammal Survey, CAMMS 1991, Cruise 1426 SWFSC Marine Mammal Survey, ORCAWALE 1996, Cruise 1604 SWFSC Marine Mammal Survey, ORCAWALE 1996, Cruise 1605 SWFSC Marine Mammal Survey, ORCAWALE 2001, Cruise 1617 SWFSC Marine Mammal Survey, CSCAPE 2005, Cruise 1627 SWFSC Marine Mammal Survey, CSCAPE 2005, Cruise 1628 SWFSC Marine Mammal Survey, ORCAWALE 2008, Cruise 1635 Scope Themes: Biology > Mammals, Biology > Reptiles Keywords: Marine/Coastal, I, Pacific, Cetacea, Testudines Geographical coverage I, Pacific [Marine Regions] Temporal coverage 15 November 2001 - 7 December 2001 Parameter Occurrence of biota Contributors Related datasets Published in: OBIS-SEAMAP: Spatial Ecological Analysis of Megavertebrate Populations, more Dataset status: Completed Data type: Data Data origin: Research: field survey Metadatarecord created: 2015-04-14 Information last updated: 2015-04-14 |
