Monitoring heavy metals and PCB's in biota in the Belgian Continental Shelf

Availability: The data can be made available upon request, please use contact information.

Description
The studies on contaminants in marine biota have since 1978 been mainly part of the monitoring programme of the Oslo and Paris Conventions (OSPAR) for the protection of the seas. In this framework, four key species are analyzed every year: cod (Gadus morhua). flounder (P!atichthys f!esus), brown shrimp (Crangon crangon) and blue mussel (Myti!us edulis). Mandatory determinants are mercury, cadmium, lead, copper, zinc, PCBs and lindane (KHCH). Cadmium and lead are also determined in cod and flounder liver.
