Dredging: heavy metals and PCBs in biota in the Belgian Continental Shelf Citation Contact: De Witte, Bavo Availability: Unknown The correct value is not known to and not computable by the creator of this information. However a correct value probably exists Description Every year, large quantities of dredged material are discharged into the sea. The dredged material is derived from maintenance dredging to keep ports and navigation channels open. This study, commissioned by the Belgian government controls the discharge areas in the Belgian part of the North Sea by monitoring any chemical and / or toxic effects. There are also biological parameters and monitored around the same zones. This combination ensures good monitoring of the quality of the marine environment.
