The external surfaces of eight turtles together with control samples from the rehabilitation pools were sampled and stored. Individual cells of diatoms were isolated and samples of 4 carapaces were studied using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Next to this relative abundance data of diatom species of the surface biofilm in these samples are generated in SZN using metagenomics (16S and 18S amplicon sequencing).
