Description
Wrack accumulations are a source of nutrients on sandy beaches and host invertebrate species, increasing local biodiversity. The distribution of these important accumulations varies in space and time depending on the environmental conditions of the area and the biological factors of the species that compose it. Consequently, this spatio-temporal variability in the wrack accumulations remains poorly understood in some regions. This database compiles the monthly variability in dry weight biomass of six seaweed taxa(Saccorhiza polyschides, Fucus spp., Ascophyllum nodosum, Cystoseira spp., Ulva spp. and Sargassum muticum) which forming the wrack of four sandy beaches in the northern Portugal (Âncora, Cabedelo, Paramos and São Pedro de Maceda)through a year. more

Samples of wrack of the taxa Saccorhiza polyschides, Fucus spp., Ascophyllum nodosum, Cystoseira spp., Ulva spp. and Sargassum muticum were collected along a 10 m transect at each beach and date (May 2019, June 2019, July 2019, August 2019, September 2019, October 2019, November 2019, December 2019, January 2020, February 2020, March 2020 and May 2020). The fresh and decomposed wrack of each taxa was collected and transported to the laboratory where it was cleaned and dried at 60°C until it reached a constant weight to quantify the total biomass per 10 m transect.
