There was a 1 km2 hexagon grid created for the North Sea and AIS data was used to calculate the amount of time that vessels spent within the grid. There are time aggregates for each month and for each AIS class as well as for all classes and months which allows users to quickly determine vessel activity and trends throughout time and space.
