Description

In the framework of the Raversijde Living Lab project, bathymetric measurements are carried out periodically to monitor the beach morphology. Profiles of the seafloor will be obtained pre- and post-storm as well vertical bottom changes and sediment concentration measurements will take place during the storms by a suspension meter.

Single and multibeam methods will be employed. Single beam surveys cover a 2 km alongshore and 500 m cross-shore zone, providing data for nautical purposes. Multibeam surveys, including an offshore one, enhance morphological understanding with a 2.6 km alongshore and 560 m cross-shore coverage. A comparison indicates that single beam profiles are representative of shoreface bathymetry, with some limitations around groynes. The study explores improving single beam DEMs by incorporating groyne geometry from multibeam surveys.
