Description

In the framework of the Raversijde Living Lab project, topography measurements are carried out periodically to monitor the beach morphology. Profiles of the seafloor will be obtained pre- and post-storm at regular intervals.

Hand RTK-GPS, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), and quad RTK-GPS methods are the surveys involved in the measurements. Hand RTK-GPS profiles, spanning 250 meters from seaward vegetation boxes to the low water line, were re-projected for improved temporal comparison. To cover areas beyond vegetation boxes, topography was extracted from UAV Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and merged with hand RTK-GPS profiles.

The finding obtained will provide understanding of the coastal dynamics in the Raversijde area, shedding light on the effectiveness of soft coastal defenses. The integrated approach, combining different survey methods, contributes valuable data for ongoing monitoring and future coastal management strategies in the region.
