Abstract | This project comprises a comparative study of the carbon flux through the microbial food web in a series of marine and freshwater systems situated along trophic gradients. For each system, a model describing the transfer of carbon from the DOM pool to the mesozooplankton will be constructed. Two important processes will be investigated experimentally: the bacterial growth efficiency and the number of trophic levels present between bacteria and the mesozooplankton. |
