Abstract
Otoliths are massive calcareous bodies in the inner ear of bony fishes. They present a typical morphology, distinguishable on the specific level. They are common in most marine deposits and are thus essential for the reconstruction of fossil fish faunas. Otoliths are used for stratigraphical purposes and for the reconstruction of paleo-environments.
