Abstract
Fifty-three species of Filifera Hydromedusae have been found in the waters surrounding Laing Island. Among them are 9 new species which are described herein: Bougainvillia aurantiaca, Halitiara inflexa, H. rigida, Halitiarella ocellata, Hansiella fragilis, Janiopsis costata, Leuckartiara simplex, Merga bulbosa, Nubiella mitra. Four new genera have been proposed: Halitiarella, Hansiella, Janiopsis and Nubiella. Protiara tropica, a medusa up to now referred to the Pandeidae is assigned to the Calycopsidae under a new generic name as Pseudotiara tropica. The genus Timoides is referred to the Pandeidae and the family Timoididae, of which it was the sole member, needs no longer to be recognized. Several species of previous authors are rediagnosed in the light of new information.
