The EBAMAR project aims to enhance the Balearic Islands' strategy in marine research and innovation to address new challenges in ocean observation. It will develop advanced technologies, platforms, and marine sensors for in situ data collection. The project focuses on estimating atmosphere-ocean CO₂ exchanges and carbon sequestration, quantifying organic matter export and its impact on the Mediterranean carbon balance, and assessing small-scale processes that influence vertical carbon and energy transfer. It also investigates microbial metabolite sources and their role in ecosystem functioning, analyzes climate-induced changes in macrofauna behavior and composition, and evaluates the vulnerability of coastal habitats and fish populations to rising temperatures, extreme weather, and ocean acidification. Additionally, EBAMAR seeks to promote a new ocean culture that fosters awareness and supports sustainable development through knowledge, digitalization, and the blue economy.
