| Abstract |
A stress effect results in a change of rate of a physiological process and in damage to the individual or the population. To be of value in effects monitoring the response should be measurable with ease and precision. These considerations are discussed in relation to rates of oxygen consumption, efficiency of osmotic or ionic regulation, and energy balance studies. |
