Abstract
According to the literature of the 20th century, the meagre has become very scarce in the western Mediterranean. The meagre has only one big reproduction and nursery areas in the Mediterranean, in the eastern part, at the Nile Delta. These reproduction and nursery areas are now far smaller than they were before the construction of the Aswan High Dam (1964-1966). However, it looks as if the meagre was scarce along the French, Italian and Spanish coasts before 1964-1966.
