| Abstract |
Chondracanthus coelorinchi sp. nov. is described from Coelorinchus gilberti Jordan & Hubbs, 1925 (Gadiformes, Macrouridae) and Lateracanthus hoi sp. nov. is established to accomodate Ho’s (1975) L. quadripedis. Acanthocondrites annulatus (Olsson, 1868), Chondracanthus lepidionis Kabata, 1970, and Lateracanthus quadripedis Kabata & Gusev, 1966 are redescribed from Dipturus macrocauda (Ishiyama, 1955) (Rajiformes, Rajidae), Coelorinchus gilberti, and Coryphenoides acrolepis (Bean, 1884) (Macrouridae), respectively. It is herein mentioned for the first time that the females of the species in this family have a pair of reproductive processes on the genital somite, positioned anteroventrally. These processes presumably function in attracting males through releasing pheromones and making a male fix itself onto the female genital somite. The existence of an inter-antennal pillar in the males of the family is also mentioned for the first time. |
