Abstract
    An analysis is made of the species, distribution and microhabitats of the Comesomatidae, the most abundant group of freeliving nematodes in muddy sediment of European waters. Each Sabatieria species is characterized and separated in two groups according to their morphology and microhabitats. These geographically distinct assemblages support the theory of isocommunities and may provide an interesting background for further metabolic and life history investigations of those common benthic animals.
