Abstract
The amphipod Ampithoe valida is naturally found in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean and the northern Pacific Ocean. It is believed that this species reached Europe through oyster transports or shipping (ballast water, fouling). The first report on European territory dates back to 1992 (Portugal). In Belgium, the species was first observed in 2020, in the Scheldt estuary near Doel. Three years later, the species was observed only once more near Lillo, but there have been no other reports from Belgium.
