Abstract | The amphipod Ptilohyale littoralis originates from the northwestern part of the Atlantic Ocean. This organism was introduced to the Netherlands via shipping (ballast water or hull fouling) in 2009 and was first discovered in Belgium in 2022 on the RT1 measurement pole, about 500 meters north of the eastern breakwater of Ostend. This amphipod lives in both brackish and marine environments. It is found in the littoral zone where it hides between stones, oysters, mussels, or under Bladderwrack. |
