Abstract
Gobiosoma bosc, commonly known as the Naked goby, is a small fish species native to estuarine environments along the North and Central American east coast. The species was likely introduced to Western Europe through the exchange of ballast water by transoceanic ships. The Naked goby was first observed in Belgium in 2018, in the Sea Scheldt. The species occurs in various shallow estuarine habitats. To date, the number of sightings in Belgium has been limited, although it is possible that the fish is underreported due to its small size and rather cryptic lifestyle.
