Abstract | In 2021, Cardita calyculata was observed in the Netherlands for the first (and so far, only) time. As of 2024, the species has not yet been recorded in Belgium. This bivalve is commonly found in the Mediterranean region and the more southern North Atlantic waters (south of the Bay of Biscay). The exact method of introduction remains unknown, with possible pathways including shellfish transport, shipping, or natural spread facilitated by the warming climate. |
