Several putative turtle specific diatom strains were co-cultured with what are considered to be opportunistic diatom taxa and imaged for bright field and CY5 to follow growth and biomass change over a period of 14 days. Additionaly mono- and co-culture set up was replicated in cell culture flasks and grown under same conditions for 16S rRNA gene sequencing and characterization of diatom associated microbiota and potential shifts of the aforementioned during co-culturing.
