Abstract:
General - Aim of the Department

The Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Management was founded in 1998 and established in the town of Agrinio in the academic year 1998-1999. The purpose of the creation and operation of the new Department is to promote environmental science, with particular emphasis on environmental and natural resources management, train scientists to carry out studies and conduct research, understand and implement modern methods for the conservation, management and restoration of the natural, semi-natural and anthropogenic environment, and to promote knowledge regarding the use of modern technologies in order to deal with environmental problems.

The aim of the Department is to offer an integrated programme of undergraduate studies with two basic options: a) Conservation of the Natural Environment and b) Land-Use Management, as well as postgraduate education, which meet both international progress in the above-referred scientific field and the needs and particularities of the study of problems pertaining to the protection and management planning of regions and their natural resources by means of a sustainable/integrated approach. Since 1999 the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Management has been developing dynamically. Presently, it has a complete undergraduate study programme that was recently readjusted to the contemporary demands/needs of scientists who will manage the environment in the future.
