Abstract: | The Conchological Society of Great Britain & Ireland is a registered charity, founded in 1876 and is one of the oldest existing societies devoted to the study of the Mollusca. The Society's aim is to promote the study of the Mollusca in its widest aspects through its publications, meetings, workshops and Census schemes. The Society has been at the forefront of biological recording for 120 years. Information comes from members of the Society via individual enterprise and a programme of field meetings. Professional malacologists, University departments (through undergraduate and postgraduate work and independent contracts) and general biologists, ecologists, divers and naturalists with a particular interest in molluscs, can all play a valuable part in providing records from their field work. The Society publishes papers on shells, anatomy, ecology, conservation, distribution and nomenclature of British and worldwide molluscs. It is primarily funded through membership subscriptions. The Society's members range from amateur shell collectors to professional malacologists. It is a national society with an international membership. Members of the Society receive the Journal of Conchology twice yearly, the magazine Mollusc World tri-annually and other occasional publications. The Society is managed through its Council and its three Sub-Committees (Finance, Publications, Conservation and Recording) |
