Abstract
In addition to being an important part of the diet, fish is a product of major commercial interest in many Member States. Reliable knowledge of trace element contents is thus required for reasons of public health (toxic and nutritional elements) and to ensure that fish products satisfy national regulations e.g. the Italian legislation which specifies maximum permissible limits of 0.5 ug/kg for methyl mercury and 0.8 ug/kg for total mercury.
Reference materials (RMs) are widely required to ensure quality in trace element analyses. This RM of fish completes a series of CRMs produced to support analyses related to marine environment (e.g. mussel tissue CRM 278, sediment CRM 277 and seawater CRM 403).
