Abstract
" The present project deals with the occurrence of endocrine disrupting compounds in the coastal environment of Thermaikos Gulf, at Thessaloniki, Greece. The investigated compounds include the alkylphenols (APs), nonylphenol (NP), octylphenol (OP), their mono- or di-ethoxylate oligomers (NP1EO, NP2EO, OP1EO, OP2EO), bisphenol A (BPA) and selected steroids (estriol, estrone, 17β-estradiol, mestranol and 17α-ethynylestradiol that are excreted by mammals. NP and OP are included in the Water Framework Directive (WFD) 2000/60/EC. The presence of the above mentioned compounds is examined in water samples, total suspended solids, sediments, mussels of Thermaikos Gulf, as well as in samples from rivers or canals that enter the gulf.
