Abstract | Ophiuroidea no less than other echinoderms are well known for their phenomenal regenerative capacity. Despite all these ecological studies, little information is available on functional aspects of regeneration in echinoderms. Recent studies have emphasized the important role of the nervous system during the regeneration process; it is now well admitted that it is essential for full recovery of tissue functional integrity. Knowing that Amphipholis squamata and Amphiura filiformis light emissions are under nervous control, the aim of this research is to use bioluminescence to monitor the functional recovery of the re-grown tissue. |
