Abstract
The project aims to demonstrate that the durability of the non−toxic antifouling paint ECOTEC−STC, in combination with an underwater maintenance scheme, will adequately stop ship−hull fouling, while preventing the emission of metal compounds to air and water during the paint’s application and lifetime. The project will demonstrate the performance of ECOTEC−STC on different types of vessels and in the different waters of the Baltic and Mediterranean Seas and the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Data on questions like hull drag, fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and water quality will be collected and assessed. Furthermore, the shipping industry, port authorities, governmental and environmental bodies, policy makers and other relevant actors will be informed of the benefits of ECOTEC−STC.
