Abstract | To determine if the geographical distribution of freshwater diatoms is constrained by their physiology, or by historical/geographical factors, terrestrial and aquatic species of the genus Pinnularia will be isolated from different locations in the world. Molecular-genetic tools will be used to study their phylogenetic relationships, while experimental studies will be used to reveal their tolerance to e.g. temperature and moisture changes. |
